Two years of the Climate Pact in Graz
The city of Graz is celebrating the second anniversary of the #bindabei Climate Pact, marking two years of successful collaboration between businesses, organisations, associations and committed citizens. Since the initiative was launched in 2024, 114 organisations and around 1,160 Graz residents have already joined the pact and are implementing concrete measures for climate protection. These include Med Uni Graz.
With the aim of becoming climate-neutral by 2040, the city of Graz is pursuing an ambitious path. However, this project can only succeed through joint action: only around three per cent of CO₂ emissions in the urban area originate within the direct sphere of influence of the city administration. Around 40 per cent are attributable to business and industry, with a further 30 per cent or so coming from private households. The active participation of numerous stakeholders is therefore a key factor for success on the path to achieving climate protection targets.
As part of an anniversary event on 8 June 2026 at the Tennenmälzerei on the Reininghaus grounds, the City of Graz recognised the commitment of the Climate Pact signatories and presented the initiative’s first tangible successes.
Successes after two years of the Climate Pact #bindabei
- Wide participation: From small businesses to large organisations, from committed individuals to teams within the GEMMA Klima initiative – the Climate Pact is supported by a diverse community.
- Measurable impact: The participating Climate Pact businesses account for around one-sixth of greenhouse gas emissions in the Graz urban area and are thus making a significant contribution to reducing emissions.
- Strong networking: Regular dialogue events, workshops and exchange formats promote knowledge transfer, cooperation and shared learning.
- Innovative projects: Numerous pilot initiatives strengthen Graz’s position as a pioneer in municipal climate protection and highlight new pathways for sustainable urban development.
The #bindabei Climate Pact demonstrates that effective climate protection arises above all where many stakeholders jointly take responsibility and implement concrete measures.
