The Lung Research Cluster (LRC) Congress 2026, entitled “When Healthy Aging Goes Wrong: From Chronic Lung Diseases to Cancer – Mechanisms, Biomarkers, and Interventions”, recently took place at the Medical University of Graz.

The congress brought together internationally renowned experts in pulmonary vascular disease, fibrosis, COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, regeneration, and lung cancer to discuss the molecular mechanisms driving chronic lung diseases and age-related lung pathology, as well as emerging biomarkers and therapeutic strategies.

Keynote lectures were delivered by leading scientists including Corey E. Ventetuolo, Rosa Faner and Kristine Konopka. The meeting provided a highly interdisciplinary platform that brought together clinicians and researchers from Pneumology, OLRC, Pathology, Thoracic Surgery, and Oncology, enabling chronic lung diseases and lung cancer to be explored from multiple clinical and scientific perspectives. Through this close cross-disciplinary exchange, participants discussed mechanisms of lung aging and translational strategies aimed at improving future diagnostics, biomarkers, and therapeutic interventions.
