Heart and Diabetes: Mahmoud Abdellatif receives research award
With the Research Award of Working Group 23 on Heart and Diabetes, the German Society of Cardiology honours young researchers conducting work in the field of pathophysiology, diagnostics or treatment of heart disease in the context of metabolic disorders, including diabetes, obesity and lipid metabolism disorders. This year, the award went to Mahmoud Abdellatif from the Division of Cardiology at the Medical University of Graz.
His research focuses on the biology of Aging and its influence on cardiometabolic diseases. Together with his team, he is investigating molecular mechanisms of Aging in the cardiovascular system in order to develop targeted therapies. Their work has defined key hallmarks of cardiovascular aging and identified therapeutically relevant signalling pathways. Some of the patent-protected active substances are already being tested in clinical trials – with the aim of treating age-related diseases and extending healthy life expectancy.
Congratulations!
