This year marked the fifth time that a memorial service has been held in honour of those who, through their body donations, have made an invaluable contribution to medical education and research at the Medical University of Graz. The body donors were commemorated at the Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Graz with deep gratitude and great appreciation.

The ceremony was organised by the Division of Macroscopic and Clinical Anatomy in collaboration with students from the Medical University of Graz. The event was accompanied musically by the student choir and other musicians. The ecumenical service was led by Reverend Christian Graf and Chaplain Dragan Juric.

In dignified speeches, Rector Andrea Kurz, Chair Niels Hammer, medical students and Freyja-Maria Smolle-Jüttner paid tribute to the body donors. Body donation is an exceptionally selfless and valuable gift to science. They emphasised the great significance of this gesture – not only for medical education, but also for the medical understanding of humanity and responsibility.

Special thanks also go to the relatives of the body donors who supported this decision. Their support deserves our deepest appreciation and sympathy.

The ceremony concluded with a communal gathering – marked by gratitude, respect and a sense of connection with the deceased.
