International award for the Graz Medical University campus

Our campus was awarded second prize at the International Innovative Design for Health Award organised by the International Union of Architects (UIA). This international award recognises outstanding architectural projects that combine innovation in healthcare, sustainability and people’s well-being in a unique way.

This honour underscores the high quality of the Med Uni Campus Graz as a forward-looking centre for research, teaching and work. The project, designed by Riegler Riewe Architekten, particularly impressed the international expert jury with its holistic concept and sustainable approach.

Particular praise was given to the climate-responsive building design, which makes optimal use of natural light and fresh air, as well as the campus-wide layout that promotes interaction, communication and collaboration. The jury also commended the successful integration of medical research, teaching, clinical processes and communal areas on a single inner-city campus.

The Med Uni Campus Graz also sets new standards in the areas of sustainability and social responsibility. With ÖGNI/DGNB Platinum certification, a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, accessible facilities and a campus concept geared towards sustainable mobility, the project meets the highest quality standards and creates optimal conditions for more than 5,000 students and staff.
